Sucré FAQ: Custom Cakes, Wedding Cakes, Delivery and Pricing

Sucré is a Toronto custom cake atelier founded in 2015. Cakes are commissioned by consultation, planned for guest count, service timing, venue logistics, and an intentional design direction. Below are answers to our most common questions — or start an inquiry and we will guide you from there.

If you are ready to begin, start with availability. Submit a cake inquiry with your date and guest count so we can confirm capacity and recommend the right scale. Most questions resolve naturally once those two details are clear.

Getting started

Most questions disappear once your date, guest count, and delivery zone are clear. This section covers the quickest path to a confident plan.

How do I start a Sucré cake commission?

Start with your date and guest count so we can confirm availability and recommend a scale. The fastest path is our cake inquiry form. Include your venue (or delivery zone), and 2 to 5 inspiration images (or a Pinterest board).

Do you operate as a storefront bakery?

No. Sucré operates as a private atelier based in downtown Toronto. Pickup is coordinated by appointment and delivery is planned around structure, timing, and venue access. If you need pickup details up front, see the Cake Guide.

How far in advance should I order a custom cake in Toronto?

Availability comes first. For weddings, many couples inquire once the venue and date are set — industry guidance recommends at least 6 months in advance, and up to 12 months for peak dates.

For most custom and birthday cakes, 2 to 4 weeks notice is recommended. If you are closer to your date, reach out and we will confirm what is possible.

How quickly will you reply to my inquiry?

Quotes are typically prepared fastest Monday to Wednesday. Thursday to Sunday response times may be slower while we are in production. Submitting the form does not require payment or commitment.

Which page should I start from?

Choose the page that matches your event intent. If you already have your date and guest count, you can go straight to the inquiry form.

Design and customisation

Inspiration is welcome. The goal is alignment on mood, then a Sucré execution that performs in real service conditions.

Can you match my inspiration photo exactly?

We use inspiration to align mood and styling, then create a bespoke version that fits your scale, structure, and finish requirements. We do not copy designs exactly — we interpret them through Sucré's techniques and materials so the cake is balanced, stable, and service-ready.

Why might the final cake look slightly different?

Design adjustments can be required for structural integrity, scale, servings, and budget alignment. Variations in colour, proportions, florals, and decorative methods are part of real-world execution.

Can you include fresh florals?

Yes. Fresh or dried florals may be incorporated when appropriate. Because natural products vary by season and supplier, exact matches are not guaranteed. If florals are central to your design, include that in your inquiry so we can plan intentionally.

Can you write on the cake?

We do not handwrite directly on cakes. Instead, we offer refined message options: fondant lettering, painted fondant messaging, or laser-cut acrylic script toppers — all precise, clean, and intentional.

Can I provide my own topper, candles, or accessories?

Sometimes. Client-provided items must be submitted for pre-approval and provided in advance. We may decline items that could compromise food safety, structural integrity, or the final aesthetic.

Do you make logo cakes or character-inspired designs?

We can create cakes inspired by themes, characters, or brand elements. Clients are responsible for obtaining any needed third-party permissions. For dedicated corporate and branded cake briefs, see our Corporate Cakes page.

Will my cake be shared on your website or social media?

Sucré may photograph cakes and use images for promotional purposes. If you have privacy concerns, tell us in writing as early as possible so we can note your preference where feasible.

Pricing, deposits, order changes, and cancellations

Pricing is driven by servings, structure, and decorative complexity. The fastest way to accuracy is a complete inquiry.

How much does a custom cake cost in Toronto?

Pricing depends on guest count, tier count, design complexity, and finishing details. Because every cake is a bespoke commission, we provide individual quotes. Starting points are shown on the inquiry form. Submit your date and guest count to receive a price range.

How do I secure my date?

A deposit secures your production slot. Your order becomes contractually effective upon payment and is governed by the Commission Agreement.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A nonrefundable 50% deposit is required to secure your order and delivery date. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to delivery. Orders placed within 30 days require full payment at ordering.

Can I change my order after confirmation?

Possibly, depending on timing and what has already entered production. All change requests must be made in writing and may incur additional fees.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations within 30 days of the event result in the full contract amount being owed. For the complete policy, see the Commission Agreement.

Do you offer refunds?

Because cakes are perishable and custom-made, Sucré has a strict no-refund policy once products leave our premises. Limited remedies may apply in cases such as missing or incorrect items, with reporting windows defined in the Commission Agreement.

Sizes, servings, and flavours

This is the planning layer that makes everything calm: servings, slice style, and flavour direction. The Cake Guide covers all of this in detail.

How do I choose the right cake size?

We size cakes by guest count and slice style. The Cake Guide explains party slices vs event slices so you can match serving math to your service plan.

What is the difference between a party slice and an event slice?

An event slice is smaller and more formal — our default for many events. A party slice is larger for more casual servings. Dimensions and serving ranges are outlined in the Cake Guide.

Can you plan a smaller centrepiece cake and add extra servings?

Yes. For larger guest counts, we can plan a refined centrepiece and discuss supplemental serving solutions so the cake moment stays elevated and service remains efficient.

What flavours do you offer?

Sucré offers multiple sponge profiles paired with fruit compotes, mousses, and specialty fillings, plus frosting finishes including Italian Meringue Buttercream, Chantilly cream, and fondant when needed. The most current list and profiles are in the Cake Guide.

Do you offer tastings?

Tasting options vary by season and availability. If you would like to explore tastings, mention it in your inquiry and we will advise what is currently available.

Do you accommodate dietary needs?

Some dietary preferences (gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free) may be possible depending on the cake design. Sucré operates in a facility that handles common allergens and cross-contact may occur. Please disclose dietary needs in your inquiry so we can confirm feasibility.

Delivery, pickup, and cake care

Logistics are part of the product. This is where a cake stays stable, clean, and service-ready.

Do you deliver in Toronto and the GTA?

Yes. Sucré offers complimentary delivery within Toronto M postal codes, with GTA delivery available at an additional fee confirmed at booking. Delivery windows are coordinated around cake scale and venue access.

What delivery windows do you offer?

Standard delivery is scheduled in a 4-hour window, with a 1-hour priority option available. Delivery timing is planned carefully, but exact arrival times are not guaranteed. See the Commission Agreement and Cake Guide for full terms.

Do you deliver upstairs or into private units?

No. Delivery is curbside or lobby only. Drivers do not climb stairs or perform unit deliveries.

Where is pickup?

Pickup is coordinated near 63 Lombard Street in downtown Toronto. This is a studio pickup model — not a storefront. You will receive timing confirmation and handling guidance with your order.

What should I do for transport after pickup?

Keep the car cool, place the cake on a flat stable surface, and avoid direct sunlight. Once the order leaves our care, handling becomes the client's responsibility.

How should I store and serve the cake?

Cakes are perishable and should be refrigerated. Serving timing depends on frosting:

Chantilly cream: remove from fridge ~30 minutes before serving.
Italian Meringue Buttercream: remove 1.5–2 hours before serving to soften to best texture.

More detail is in the Cake Guide.

Can the cake be displayed outdoors?

Outdoor conditions — heat, sunlight, humidity, wind, insects, and uneven surfaces — can compromise stability and finish. If your event is outdoors, plan shade and cool storage until serving time. Warranty is not provided for outdoor conditions.

Dessert tables and add-ons

Dessert tables are curated by consultation so quantities and variety feel intentional, not assembled. Full details at Dessert Tables Toronto.

Do you offer dessert tables in Toronto?

Yes. Sucré creates curated dessert tables for private celebrations and wedding weekends, pairing an optional cake centrepiece with premium mini desserts, cupcakes, and artisanal custard ice cream. Tables are planned by consultation so the selection and quantities feel intentional. Visit Dessert Tables Toronto for the full detail.

Is there a minimum spend for dessert tables?

Yes. The minimum dessert table spend is $150, and premium desserts are batch made to order — not pulled from a display case.

What can be included on a dessert table?

Dessert tables can include an optional cake centrepiece, custom cupcakes, premium baked-to-order desserts, and artisanal custard ice cream as an add-on. Final selection and quantities are confirmed during consultation.

Do you handle corporate dessert tables?

Corporate dessert briefs — including logo cakes, branded cupcakes, product launches, and film or TV wrap party catering — are handled through our dedicated Corporate Cakes page, which is designed specifically for business and production briefs.
